Universal Playground

Pave the Way to a Universal Playground

Hillbilly Christmas in July, an organization dedicated to raising funds for The Shriner’s Hospital for Children-Lexington, has identified another need in our local area.  As of this writing, a playground to accommodate handicapped children does not exist in Pikeville or Pike County.  Even though the stated purpose of Hillbilly Christmas In July is clear, we feel that the lack of a proper play area for special needs children cannot be ignored.  We intend to fill this void, but as in all other projects such as this money is the key.

The City of Pikeville has graciously offered a parcel of land in Bob Amos Park at no cost, but in order to prepare the site and erect the equipment $100,000 is needed.

Here’s how you can help “Pave The Way” to the playground.  A brick walkway will be built from the paved parking lot into the play area.  These special bricks will be inscribed with a name of your choosing and can be a memorial to, or in honor of that person or organization.  A contribution of $100 per brick will go a long way toward “Paving the Way” to reach the $100,000 goal and build this much needed facility.

If you have a special needs child in your family, you understand the need for this playground, and if you don’t we hope you’ll open your heart to those who do and assist in this worthy endeavor.
